Spain Visa for a Spanish Language Course: Accredited Schools, One Extension, No Automatic Work

A long Spanish course can support a study stay, but the 2025 regulation narrowed it: the course must be in person at an official language school or a centre accredited by Instituto Cervantes, the stay can be extended only once, and work is not automatic.

Common questions: Language course visa

Can I come as a tourist and switch to a language visa in Spain?

No. Only residents and, for higher education, people lawfully in Spain can apply from inside the country; a language student must apply from India at least two months before the course.

Is there a 20-hour minimum?

The regulation's text does not set one; schools and consulates often expect an intensive course of about 20 hours a week. Ask the consulate before you book.
