Book at a BLS centre in your consulate's jurisdiction; summer slots go fast.
Decision
The consulate has one month by law; plan for 4–8 weeks in all.
TIE in Spain
Within a month of arrival, apply for the foreigner identity card if your stay is over six months.

Documents
- Passport, application form and photo.
- Admission letter and proof of paid fees where the university requires payment.
- Proof of funds: 100% of IPREM, €600 a month.
- Health insurance from an insurer authorised in Spain, covering everything the public system covers, with no co-payments, deductibles or waiting periods, for the whole stay.
- For stays over 180 days: police clearance from the Regional Passport Office (last five years) and a medical certificate under the International Health Regulations.
- Visa fee. Indian documents with an MEA apostille and sworn Spanish translation.

BLS centres
New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Puducherry, Chandigarh and Jalandhar. You can use any centre in your consulate's jurisdiction. The Mumbai consulate asks students to apply at least two months before the course starts.
After arrival
For a stay of more than six months, apply for the TIE card (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero) at a police station within a month; the card fee was €16.08 on the Policía Nacional page. Each year, renew the stay before it expires and show progress in your studies.
